CJ's mission is "to make a significant, recognisable contribution to the protection and welfare of wild birds and other wildlife". To achieve this,we proudly support the RSPCA (the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and the RHS (the Royal Horticultural Society), helping to fund their valuable work. RSPCA Trading Ltd (which pay all its taxable profits to RSPCA - A charity registered in England and Wales. Charity no. 219099) will receive approximately £100,000 per annum from sale of CJ Wildlife products. The RHS is a registered charity: 222879/SC038262 We thank both the RSPCA and the RHS for their following contributions.
The RSPCA's ethos is preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to all animals - domestic, farm and wild. Some people may think the Society is only involved with companion animals - primarily cats and dogs - but this couldn't be further from the truth. As well as animal centres and clinics, the RSPCA has four animal hospitals and three wildlife centres dedicated to not only the rehabilitation of wild animals, but giving an injured animal the best chance of survival when it can be returned to the wild. In fact, in 2004 the RSPCA treated 12,978 sick and injured wild animals in 12 months. Most of us take pleasure watching wildlife visit our gardens and here at the RSPCA we offer advice on how to make your garden animal friendly and encourage wildlife. With the variety of British wildlife - and especially British birds - we really are spoilt for choice, and hanging out bird feeders and a clean bird bath is the easiest way of attracting birds and watching them close up. The Royal Horticultural Society - Britain's Gardening Charity The RHS actively promotes Britain's gardens as havens for wildlife, because evidence is mounting of the vital role gardens can play in supporting and protecting this precious natural inheritance. Even the smallest town garden can be transformed into a haven for wildflowers and animals. Such natural oases can form virtual habitats providing food, shelter and breeding sites for animals. They also link rural and urban areas together; acting as wildlife highways and stop-off points. To encourage more wildlife into your garden, please consider planting nectar rich plants such as Buddleia (Buddleja alternifolia) to attract and boost insect numbers, including bees, butterflies and hoverflies; and fruiting plants such as Mountain Ash (Sorbus aucuparia) to provide valuable food sources for birds, especially in winter. Long grasses can be left to seed as they are an excellent food source for birds and insects. Our mission is to help people share a passion for plants, to encourage excellence in horticulture and inspire all those interested in gardening. Today, more than ever before in the Society's 200-year history, that means fostering an interest in gardening for wildlife. To become a member of the Royal Horticultural Society all you need is an interest in gardening. For more information visit our website www.rhs.org.uk or call 0845 130 4646. |
