Despite spending almost four months of the year in hibernation and foraging for food at night, hedgehogs are still one of the most frequently spotted garden visitors.
If you wish to encourage them, providing a plentiful supply of food will help. Although traditionally fed, bread and milk is harmful to the hedgehogs' teeth and can even cause diarrhoea and dehydration. Hedgehogs are insectivores and their preferred diet includes beetles, slugs, caterpillars and earthworms.
Our Hedgehog Food is an excellent substitute should supplies of these insects be insufficient. They can also be tempted by saucers of meat-based cat or dog food but at all times of the year, particularly summer, ensure a bowl of clean water is available.
CJ WildBird Foods' Hedgehog range is approved by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

Similar to a hedgehog's natural diet and following trials with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, our improved recipe includes chopped peanuts, sunflower hearts, dried mealworms, sultanas and dried blackberries. As the food contains dried ingredients, be sure to put out a dish of fresh water as well.

Hedgehogs like to nest under sheds, hedges and brushwood, but this House offers an excellent alternative. The entrance tunnel offers extra protection from predators.
