How can you help keep your garden birds healthy?
We all enjoy feeding the wild birds in our gardens, but it is important to follow a few simple hygiene procedures to ensure that your garden is a safe place for them:
Clean feeders and bird tables regularly with disinfectant, rinsing thoroughly.
Wear rubber gloves when handling feeding equipment and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Keep feeding areas clean of droppings and discarded food.
Please note: our disinfectants have not been tested on animals and are not dangerous to the environment.
Window Strikes
Window strikes (when a bird flies into a window) happen throughout the year, but usually peak at the end of the breeding season when numbers of young, inexperienced birds are at their greatest.
The best way to reduce the likelihood of these collisions is to draw attention to the presence of the glass by placing a sticker in the centre of the pane (unless the majority of impacts occur in one place). Any shaped sticker is likely to work, but for maximum effect we have used silhouettes of birds of prey or a spider's web - in both cases images that birds are keen to avoid.

The Garden Bird Health Initiative (GBHi) was set up in part to develop guidelines on how to best feed garden birds for their welfare and conservation, whilst minimising disease and other risks.

Help prevent bird strikes on windows with Sentinels - sticky-backed vinyl silhouettes of hawks and falcons. The red sentinels should be used where birds can see a reflection of the garden in the window. The black sentinels should be used if birds can see through a room (because there is a window on the other side) and are attempting to fly through.
