Shropshire Ornithological Society

SOS logo

The Shropshire Ornithological Society (SOS) plays an important part in the national network of Bird Clubs. It aims to encourage the study and protection of birds particularly in Shropshire and arranges a wide range of activities and publications to meet this aim.

The Society covers the County for national surveys and makes past records available for current research, working with other county bird clubs and the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). CJ Wildlife have been working with the SOS for a number of years, dedicated to helping members and non-members enjoy birdwatching on our doorstep.

Venus Pool

SOS is involved in the management of several sites in the County to ensure they remain attractive habitats for birds. Venus Pool is owned an managed by the Society and CJ Wildlife has recently replenished feeders, food and ID boards at the various hides around the pool. The site provides viewing hides for both members and non-members and the 'Lena' hide overlooks the bird feeding area which is an excellent viewing point for families to watch smaller garden birds.

To encourage more members to the SOS and promote nutritious feeding of birds, we are pleased to have created a more permanent relationship including a specific members discount programme. For more details on how you can join the SOS, enjoy the wildlife at Venus Pool and take advantage of our offer, contact the SOS directly.
