The captivating Garden Dormouse is a shy and rarely seen woodland species, spending much of its time climbing trees in search of safe, sheltered nesting spots. As natural cavities in mature trees become harder to find, providing a specialist nest box can make a meaningful difference by offering a secure place to rest and raise young.

This Garden Dormouse Nest Box has been thoughtfully designed with a 45mm round entrance hole, perfectly suited to this species. The entrance faces the tree trunk itself, reflecting the dormouse’s natural behaviour as it climbs along bark to access potential nest sites. This clever design also helps prevent birds from taking over the box.

Made from WoodStone®, an innovative blend of concrete and wood fibres, the box offers excellent insulation and durability. The thick, breathable walls help maintain a consistent internal temperature while preventing moisture build-up. In our often changeable climate, that balance of warmth and ventilation gives young dormice the best possible start.

The best time to put up a Garden Dormouse nest box is during autumn or winter, ideally between October and March. Installing it well before spring allows dormice time to discover and explore it ahead of the breeding season. Position the box no higher than 1.5 metres on a tree trunk, with the entrance hole facing the tree for a natural, sheltered approach.
