A garden bird at a peanut butter feeder

About our food

We've built a reputation of producing some of the highest quality bird food on the market since 1987, something we're incredibly proud of.

Creating the perfect bird food is a rigorous process, something that we have refined and perfected since the very first CJ ornithologst set up the company in 1987. All our bird food mixes are made from raw ingredients of the highest quality, expertly combined to maximise the nutrition our garden birds need.

As pioneers in the wild bird food world, we were the first company to introduce high energy foods, no-mess foods, kibbled peanuts, black sunflower seeds, sunflower hearts, nyjer seed and specialist wildlife foods for hedgehogs, badgers and squirrels, to the UK market. We have decades of experience and know what we're looking for when it comes to developing foods that will be of benefit to - and loved by - your garden birds!

Shropshire Farm

Made in the heart of Shropshire

We produce and distribute our high quality bird seed mixes and nutritious peanut butter for birds from our Shropshire factory. We also clean seeds and nuts on the farm before mixing and packaging them here too - nothing but the best for our birds!

Hi-Energy No Mess
(Our most versatile mix)

"Our bestselling bird food for good reason - suitable for all garden birds."

Please Note: All our products are stored in warehouses where nuts are present. To the best of our knowledge our foods do not contain genetically modified ingredients. Although of premium quality, our food is not for human consumption.

Which food for me

Which food should I choose?

Generally, the more variety in your bird food the more species you will attract, but if you want to attract a specific species, we can help! Choose the species you want to attract to find out which food they like. But remember, birds will go for the food that offers them the best source of energy, so the higher the calories the better!

(Packed with natural essential oils)

"A great source of energy, but always add whole peanuts to a mesh feeder so smaller birds don't choke!"

How to store your food

Storing Your Bird Food

If kept cool and dry, we would recommend storing food for up to 6 months. Any food in the garden that has been uneaten for more than ten days should be disposed of. In mild, damp weather, peanuts should not be left out for more than a week. For more information, visit our FAQ's page.

Fat Balls

Calorie counting

Our fat products for birds are packed with calories, protein and essential nutrients to help garden birds. Our research has shown that many other bird foods available are not sufficiently high enough in energy, oils or protein and are a poor substitute to the birds' natural food supply. The utmost care and attention has gone into our bird foods to ensure that only the best ingredients are used to give the birds the vital food supply they need to survive.

Environmental Impact

Protecting nature

As a nature company, sustainability is really important to us. To reduce the transport mileage of our foods, we use UK-sourced products wherever possible. The balance of our black sunflower seeds and, therefore, all our sunflower hearts, are grown within mainland Europe, and the wheat we use is usually sourced from farms local to our site.

Dried Fruits - Pet Advice

Take extra care not to allow dogs or cats to eat any products containing sultanas or raisins (dried grapes) as even in small amounts, these can cause serious renal problems.

Look out for this symbol which indicates which foods contain dried fruits.
