Give kestrels a helping hand with a secure nesting site designed specifically for their needs. Unlike many birds, kestrels do not build their own nests. Instead, they rely on finding suitable ledges, cavities and abandoned nests, habitats that are becoming increasingly difficult to find in many landscapes.

This robust kestrel nest box provides a safe, elevated space where breeding pairs can lay eggs and raise their young. Built to proven nesting dimensions, it offers the open-fronted design and clear visibility that kestrels prefer when selecting a nesting location.

Designed for successful breeding

The large entrance opening provides easy access while allowing adult birds an excellent view of their surroundings. This helps kestrels monitor potential threats and maintain clear flight paths to and from the nest.

Constructed from durable, weather-resistant plywood, the box provides reliable shelter throughout the breeding season. The roof overhang helps protect the nest chamber from rain, creating a drier and more stable environment for eggs and chicks.

Easy to install

The supplied mounting bracket allows the nest box to be securely fixed to trees, barns, sheds, outbuildings or poles. For best results, install the box at least 5 metres above ground level, ideally facing south-east with an open approach and unobstructed flight path.

Creating the ideal nesting environment

As kestrels do not build nests, the base should be lined with a layer of wood chips or shredded bark to create a comfortable nesting surface. Avoid using sawdust or soil, as these can block drainage and retain moisture.

Suitable for farmland, grassland, parkland and other open habitats, this nest box can also be used in areas where kestrels and owls share the landscape.
