Mounting & placement tips

For the best results, install the nest box at least 4 metres high - ideally along the edge of a woodland, in a spacious park, or in a large garden. Use the supplied screws or nails to secure it firmly, and avoid positioning the entrance hole toward the south or west, and ensure the box is not exposed to full sun throughout the day. 

Before the breeding season (as early as January for tawny owls), add a layer of dry wood shavings or shredded bark to create a soft, inviting base. Bonus tip: place it near a tree with good branch cover, perfect for adventurous young owlets making their first climb.

Easy annual maintenance

Keeping your owl box clean is quick and simple. Between July and September, just open the hinged front panel using the latch at the bottom, remove any old nesting material or prey remains, and add a fresh layer of nesting material. This ensures a safe, hygienic space for next year’s residents.
