About the 'Beleef de Lente' Project
The live webcams are provided thanks to the generous support of the Vogelbescherming Netherlands project 'Beleef de Lente' (you can spot the organization’s emblem in the broadcasts). Throughout the spring, the project receives backing from donations and volunteer efforts.
The little owl thrives in open, grassland-rich landscapes where vegetation remains short throughout the year, providing an ideal hunting ground. To meet its nesting and perching needs, it relies on the presence of tree groups or rows, which offer essential shelter and vantage points for calling.
Between mid-April and mid-May, the little owl typically lays a clutch of 6 to 7 eggs in a tree cavity or another secure nesting site. After an incubation period of around 22 to 30 days, the chicks hatch and remain dependent on their parents for food and protection. By the time they reach 2 to 3 months old, they gain independence and leave the territory to establish their own.
