Swift Nest Box Natural Plywood

This natural plywood nest box offers a safe and effective nesting site for Common Swifts. In the wild, swifts would normally nest in cliff crevices, but in urban environments they see our buildings as a substitute. Unfortunately, renovation work and insulation have made it harder for them to find suitable sites.

Installing a swift nest box is a simple and valuable way to support these remarkable birds. This model can be fitted to existing buildings, as well as new builds and renovations. It’s made from durable plywood and is suitable for wall or under-eaves mounting.

Occasionally, other species such as House Sparrows or Starlings may also use the box. In some cases, this helps swifts discover it, as they tend to reclaim the space once they’re ready to nest.

Placement Tips: Mount the nest box under a roof overhang or gutter, or directly on an exterior wall. Swifts are colony breeders, so placing several boxes together is ideal. Face the entrance away from the southwest and avoid full sun exposure throughout the day. No nesting material is required.

Maintenance Advice: Check the mounting securely once a year. Cleaning is only necessary if other bird species have used the box, and should be done from October onwards by removing the box from the wall to access the interior from the back.
